first lines of every month of 2009
lj notification are STILL not working. this is why. i hope things go back to normal very soon.

in the meantime, here's an interesting meme i stole from [info]kerrikins, where you quote the first line from the first post of every month. i urge you to do it; it's quite fun!
JANUARY: happy new year everyone :)
FEBRUARY: the weekend was stellar, especially last night.
MARCH: i am going to post an entry soon about attending a concert featuring local rock bands, a candlelight vigil, neil gaiman, and reviews of a bath bomb as well as a controversial book.
APRIL: another one of those play-by-play updates, and this time it's a double whammy!
MAY: i have ONE more dreamwidth invite code to hand out.
JUNE: i've spent a large chunk of this morning squeeing over asylum photos & con reports, and catching up with the flist. and now i can finally post an entry!
JULY: HAPPY CANADA DAY!
AUGUST: hello friends & lovers! i am back from my nyc trip, woot!
SEPTEMBER: i woke up this morning with zero mobility in my right arm.
OCTOBER: this episode had one of the most awesome scenes in the history of the show, and left me feeling so fucking RELIEVED once the rollercoaster ride ended.
NOVEMBER: went to the office today for the final time so i could hand in my release documents.
DECEMBER: i just went through a massive flist cut. this applies to you if you can no longer see this post.
now i go back to watching the doctor fight off pyroviles with a yellow water pistol ♥ unsurprisingly, i now have a brand new doctor who tag for the latest addiction. currently watching ep 4x01 - think i can be done in time for this year's xmas special? :D

*snort*
Two amusing tidbits from the New York Times' He Wears a Revealing Sort of Restraint:

He has an understated way of putting things. Asked about his trim physique, he attributed his newfound interest in the gym to the image-conscious exhortations of Tom Ford, who directed him in (and wrote the screenplay for) the forthcoming film "A Single Man."

"He told me I looked good, but I’d look better if I had a personal trainer," Mr. Firth explained.

Perhaps the conversation went a bit differently. "I told him he was fat," Mr. Ford recalled later.

*dies* However: trainer. Oofda.

At one point, Mr. Thompson* recalled, Mr. Firth considered playing one of the drag queens in the movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." He took an alternate path as Mr. Darcy, setting himself on a wholly different trajectory.

I do believe my brain just exploded.

happy birthday [info]ano_resan, [info]no_apologies_86 and [info]duck_or_rabbit!

hello friends! my lj profile is currently BLINDINGLY ~DAZZLING~ and it's making me smile so much! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! ♥

spent the last cuppla days studying for the 2 finals i have this week, finishing off season 3 of dr. who [gonna miss martha so much, boo!] and watching movies.

1) fantastic mr. fox: saw this on saturday with theredhandthe bf and loved it! it's a very smart adaptation of roald dahl's story, the stop-motion animation is really neat, and there's a lot of witty dry humour. i don't think little children will be able to grasp the movie, but older kids and adults will definitely love it! plus, it features voice work by george clooney, meryl streep, michael gambon, willem dafoe, jason schwartman, and jarvis cocker!

wizard hat rating:

2) thomas kinkade's home for christmas aka the christmas cottage: watched this last night with [info]perfumaniac and [info]jell0_ and jesus christ. that's 2 hours of our lives that we'll never get back. it's insipid, bored us to tears, and made us want to shoot everyone on screen. none of us cared even the slightest about any of the characters, and bb jared was on screen for FAR TOO SHORT A TIME. seeing him in knobbly sweaters and geeky woolen hats was the only positive thing about the movie - so if you want to see jared look incredibly adorable with his floppy hair and dimples and cat eyes and silly winter gear, just fast forward through this idiotic flick and skip everything but his scenes.

wizard hat rating:

3) the prisoner: forgot to mention that i saw this remake with juliet_aava 2 weeks ago. personally, i liked it quite a lot. it's very trippy, is sometimes hard to follow b/c of the flashbacks and weird mindfuck scenes - but i'm a HUGE sucker for stories about dystopian societies, so it's not really a surprise that i enjoyed it so much. also, i was very happy when my interpretation of certain events ended up being correct ;) plus it has sir ian mckellen! and jamie campbell-bower [WHO LOOKS SO FREAKING PRETTY I WAS TRYING NOT TO MAKE GRABBY HANDS AT MY TV]! and james caviezel! it's a 6-part mini-series/tv movie so keep that in mind if you're considering watching it.

wizard hat rating:

and now i have a LOT of fic & art recs to share with y'all! [info]salt_burn_porn is my fave fest right now b/c a) my fave authors are participating and b) unsurprisingly, every single fic has been filthily good and has turned me on SO HARD :D [info]spn_j2_xmas has been alright so far. no exceptional fics yet, but i did find a handful feel-good pieces. i'll be catching up on [info]hp_yule_balls and [info]go_exchange in the next few days. anyway, hope you enjoy the following!

FIC RECS: 2 j-squared, 2 wincest )

FIC RECS: 6 from SALT_BURN_PORN )

FIC RECS: 2 college AUs from SPN_J2_XMAS )

ART RECS: good omens/supernatural crossover!, tonks & morgana in a hp/merlin crossover!, morgana/gwen from CAMELOTSOLSTICE! )

MISC

1) jamie campbell-bower and bonnie wright are dating!: OMG MY GUESS WAS CORRECT! like [info]fera_festiva and i said on twitter a little while back, it's alright if you don't want to write us jamie/bonnie RPF but SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE US GRINDELWALD/GINNY WEASLEY FIC NAO! we want them to be the same age [no crossgen pls] so you can work in time travel or anything else to make that happen. and it'd be most excellent if ginny was slightly dark. like [info]fera_festiva put it:
"Yes! Gellert sort of thinking he can use Ginny, but she's on to him and sort of playing him too, I think..."
ANY TAKERS? YES? YES?

2) how to use the apostrophe correctly: PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, WRITERS. DO IT.

Homestretch, people. *Homestretch.*
Alternately titled: one step forward, 4,835 steps back.

You see, this weekend, I finally got to the movies. Was excited to get to the movies. Then nearly 9 pages into it, 4,835 words into it, I realized, with the help of a St-Paul-on-the-road-to-Damascus-type stroke of genius by my real-time beta [info]just_dreamsome: I DON'T HAVE TO. Every moment of the two movies does not have to be revisited, every scene does not have to be rehashed. I can explain as I go. I CAN CARRY ON AND GET TO THE END OF THE STORY.

So now I'm to the absolute present. Things are Happening™. The end is nigh. I am a happy camper.

Word count (ellipsis caveat in place): 121,054.
Page count (ditto): 227
